THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATION

THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATION .. Maureen Clifford ©  The #ScribblyBarkPoet

Everything we do in life is rooted in communication. And communication does not always require words. Babies connect with their parents long before they can speak. Pets engage in constant nonverbal exchange with their owners. True nonverbal communication is the ability to tune in—to notice thoughts, emotions, and actions—and to respond with empathy. It does not mean surrendering your boundaries or becoming a doormat for others.

Communication is a two-way street. It requires input and output, participation, respect, consideration, and connection. Sometimes, it simply requires one person to truly listen.

For communication to exist, there must be at least two people involved. It may not always be an equal 50/50 exchange, but the outcome must always equal 100% effort. Anything less is not real communication.

Of all the life skills we possess, communication may be the most empowering. Life is too short to spend it closed off, guarded, or silent. A person who cannot communicate or love another person or animal, struggles to truly love themselves.

And then one day, the person you most want to communicate with is gone. You can no longer reach them. You realize how many chances you had—and how many you let slip away. The regret is heavy. The loss is unbearable. And nothing can undo it.

So don’t waste opportunities. Communicate now.  The walls we build to keep others out only keep us in.
